Hello from me and Natsu! It’s so pretty today, look! Everyone is eating peacefully. Once our hens are over three years old, they get along nicely. Taiyo, you’re standing in it! An egg that won’t crack? It’s a guinea fowl egg, and their shells are very hard.
Eggs and cat allergies
There’s an interesting study about cat allergies. It found that cats can end up giving off less of the substance that triggers the allergy, and eggs are part of the story. Someone we know who is allergic to cats was surprised. In fact, I’m allergic to cats too. Really! Our cats are healthy, with glossy coats. Eggs are amazing.
These little cats stayed with us while recovering from surgery. Maybe they prefer the country to the city? A volunteer doctor who visits a cat rescue center taught me how to do a basic health check, like listening to their lungs and heart. But they’re all so happy they start purring!
Flock news
The white duck boy still doesn’t have a name, and he’s still pure white. With Fifi around, who is bigger than him, he seems to have calmed down a little. Dyson is slim as ever, with a cheerful personality. Vicky the Easter Egger is getting bigger right on schedule. Charles is very slow. This one was abandoned by its mother, so we cared for it in a cage for a while; it likes people and now does as it pleases.
The older hens are having a relaxing break in their favorite cool spot. With fewer broody hens (hens who sit on the nest), the nest boxes are fairly peaceful. Okki-chan, laying again today? Don’t push yourself! Raven, how are you? Done hiding in the nest box?
Happa doesn’t like the camera. Happa does impressions, and now seems to have turned into a goat! Happa’s pupils tighten when calling out. Two goats? I’d rather Happa became a cat. The little ones’ room is peaceful too, led by Iruka, Heart’s star pupil. Hare-chan’s feathers have nearly grown back, and he’s doing well outside.
This area used to be a vegetable patch, so there are lots of bugs under the planters. The chickens love digging there, so I leave it be. In front of the pigeon coop is a popular spot for rescued wild chickens. Their leader is Palolo, and now and then Hiyo-chan comes by on patrol. Another peaceful day!
Meet Clarinet
This young rooster was born on the farm in spring, and he has grown up to look just like Flute. So his name is Clarinet! May you grow up to be as wise as Flute.
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii. See you in the next episode!
