Farm Notes — June 2025: A Cotton-White Silkie, the Cerberus Trio and a Thank-You to Glico

Every few days we post a short clip from the farm on YouTube. Here are all twenty-two from June in one place — tap any of them to play it right here.

The rooster corner

Cerberus is our rooster trio — always together, never apart. Cloud is head over heels for Ann (how will this grown-up romance turn out?), and handsome Shizuku is finding that being popular has its troubles. Nishiki is as handsome as ever, a beautiful rooster living up to his name.

Hens, eggs and newcomers

I thought Pog liked being on her own, but she’s turned out to be a surprisingly caring hen. A pure-white Silkie girl, fluffy as cotton, joined us — welcome to Paradise! — and one of our newcomers has started using the nest box (sorry for peeking). Ishiko’s youngsters are now three months old, and Monarch got me again, though I know she means no harm. There’s an egg quiz, too — and it may seem obvious, but I want everyone to know that hens work hard to lay every egg.

Mealtimes and sunshine

I brought something tasty for Fifi, but the good stuff always turns into a scramble. Mash is as popular as ever — there’s plenty, so share nicely. Nobody can resist the sun, and sunbathing is one of the secrets to good health. As the weather turned hot, everyone ate well together; food tastes better that way.

A cat captain and a farm dog

It’s hard to believe Fuku, our orange tabby, was once too fierce to touch! Captain Natsu is special in many ways and a farm cat we can always rely on — and lately Natsu and the guinea fowl have become surprisingly close. Iroha went for a walk on the beach and proved to be a farm dog through and through.

Remembering Glico

This month we sent a thank-you, with all our love, to Glico in the sky. We hope it reaches.

Hawaii’s wild birds

At the zoo in Honolulu, chickens and peacocks roam remarkably freely. And here’s one of Hawaii’s native birds, the manu-o-Kū, or white tern.
