Hello from Chicken Paradise — Marron is with me today.
Banana speed-eating contest
Bananas disappear at amazing speed around here, so I timed how long the flock takes. At first, many didn’t even notice, and 20 seconds went by in a flash. Then more birds caught on, and the roosters joined in. Would they call the hens over? Nope — both wanted it all to themselves. The hens pressured them, but Sonata never learns. Then Bug 2 charged in and carried off the lot, and everyone squawked about who had the right to the banana. Today’s time: 2 minutes 20 seconds. The previous record was 23 seconds! Why is everyone eating so peacefully today?
A weed buffet for Glico and Purin
Weeds have filled in the garden, so Glico and Purin got a weed buffet. Would they eat only the weeds? Purin started munching right away. Glico was pecking at the soil and drinking water off the leaves instead. Eat the weeds, Glico! And please don’t eat the cucumbers.
Weeds are full of nutrients and minerals, and eating them brings out a chicken’s natural urge to peck at the ground, so I think they’re great. Weed-eaters get nutrition regular feed can’t give, and their feathers are glossier. Glico doesn’t eat many weeds, and her feathers look a bit scruffy. Purin is a weed-eating master, and her feathers are neat and sleek. So yes, they do eat the weeds — maybe they just haven’t noticed the big cucumber yet.
Meet Piccolo
Piccolo is a rooster who grew up with Taro, like a brother without the blood relation. His colors looked like a hen’s for a long time, so I raised him believing he was a girl. Then one day his neck feathers turned pointy and orange, a beautiful tail grew in, and he became a fine rooster.
As a half-grown chick, instead of peeping he said “neh-neh, nya-nya.” Now he speaks normal rooster.
His comb is an odd shape, and his eyes are a warm brown that gives him a very gentle face. He really is gentle with hens: earlier, when I handed out treats, he took some over to a hen who was being left out. And his tail feathers are twice as long as his body. No one else here has such a gorgeous tail.
Thank you
Today we reached our 30th video! Thank you to everyone who has supported us and watched since the beginning, to the chickens who appear in every video, and to my dad, who works hard on the editing. Little by little I’ll share my dreams and all the charms of chickens, so please keep watching over us. See you in the next episode!
