Good morning! It’s me and Pen-chan, under blue skies again.
Today’s Dolly: a little escape
Dolly got out! Why are you outside? She says she’s busy eating grass. All right, a little more time out here. The landowner told me nobody around here uses pesticides, so the grass is fairly safe wherever she goes, and that if she wanders off she’ll come back on her own. So I just watched.
She came back safely. I had reward leaves ready, but she wouldn’t follow them at all, so I ended up chasing her around. Sorry — you were enjoying your meal. She went home sulking.
Duck egg scramble
Today I’m cooking fresh duck eggs from our own farm. I checked and found another one, so we have two. The first one’s white is runny again and won’t come out of the shell; the other has a harder shell.
Into a hot pan they go. It’s a scramble today, so sorry, perfectly round yolk — I’m breaking you. It seems even more jiggly than a chicken egg, and the jiggly part is slow to cook. Off the heat, onto a plate, a sprinkle of salt, and our duck egg scramble is done!
Creamy and delicious! People often say chicken eggs and duck eggs are all the same, but this feels somehow heavier — so dense. Really tasty. Thank you, Mint! Pen-chan wanted some too, so I shared a bit without salt. Tasty? It’s a duck egg!
Meet Ginny
Ginny is one of the girls in the sibling group with Hare-chan, Cheese, Jack and the rest. A girl who visited us loved Harry Potter, and she named her Ginny, after the red-haired girl in the story — Ginny’s brown feathers reminded her of that hair. She wanted to take Ginny home, but her family already has a parrot, so the answer was no.
Ginny is close friends with Sonatine and gets along with everyone, so she’s easy to care for and has grown up into a perfectly normal chicken. She has never gone broody (wanting to sit on eggs) and has no health problems.
At snack time she’s always standing ready at the front. Raised by people, she isn’t afraid of us at all: she dashes over, steals a snack and runs off with everyone chasing her. And when I’m working around the coop, I’ll suddenly notice she’s hopped onto my shoulder — always the left one. “Who’s there?” I turn, and there’s her cute face peeking at me.
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii! See you in the next video.
