Hello from Chicken Paradise Hawaii — today Pepper is with me. A lot of you have probably wondered why our chicks keep showing up in this box. They still have a lot of chick fluff, so they probably couldn’t handle the cold nights yet; I take those ones home with me, and this box is how they travel back and forth.
Peach is safe
Good news: Peach, the sibling who ran away when we took in the new chicks yesterday, was found and safely caught. I was told Peach seems to come from a different family than the others, so things felt a bit unfamiliar, and Peach got confused and ran off. Time for some food.
Setting up a fly trap
Next, I bought a fly trap on Amazon and set it up. I was unbelievably clumsy putting it together (Pen-chan, don’t just watch — help me!), but somehow it came together. You put something smelly in the little dish. Flies instinctively fly upward, so they go up through the hole, and when they try to get out, the net stops them. That’s how it’s supposed to work. Oh, there’s Marron.
I found a little something smelly, put it in, and set the trap up outside so nobody knocks it over. I put it in a corner. It’s a bit crooked, but never mind. Now we leave it for a while and see.
Meet Carl
Carl is a Plymouth Rock, the same breed as Oreo, whom I introduced before. He’s big. One day a pretty chicken suddenly walked into my classmate’s yard, and my classmate asked me what it was. From the photo, he was clearly a proper breed, so I explained my guess: someone probably raised him thinking he was a hen, he turned out to be a rooster, they couldn’t keep a rooster, and so he was dumped.
At first my classmate named him Carl and planned to keep him, since he was friendly. But chickens turned out to be harder to keep than expected, so they asked if we could take him, and we did. Several years later, he still has the same face, the same moves — nothing has changed.
For such an impressive rooster, Carl is surprisingly bad at fighting and gets beaten up quickly. So he can’t go out with everyone else; today he got the outdoor play area to himself.
It got completely dark again. Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise — see you in the next episode!
