Good morning from Chicken Paradise Hawaii — Marron is with me, and it’s another blue-sky day. Marron is a rooster, so he practices fighting. Let’s play, Marron! …Not today, huh?
Blueberries at last
Here’s our blueberry plant. I showed you before that it was covered in little bell-shaped flowers — and now it has fruit! Can you see it? This tiny one, right here. Finally. Lots more flowers have opened, too, so I have high hopes. Do your best!
Melon flowers and tiny cucumbers
The melons have finally grown female flowers — the ones that become fruit. Here, here, here… oh, and over here too. There are quite a lot. Maybe too many; I might need to choose some and cut the rest. And lots of tiny cucumbers are forming: this plant alone has two, and the other plants have two or three each. The fruit is starting to come, little by little!
Meet Bug 2
Today’s chicken is Bug 2, who is making quite a fuss. She had just been eating her food at top speed and wants to go back to it, so she isn’t cooperating.
There was a chicken named Bug, and another who looked just like Bug — that’s Bug 2. For some reason we always seem to have a “1” and a “2.” Where does the name come from? As a chick, Bug 2 had a strange, insect-like pattern and an odd balance between head and body — very bug-like. As chicks, Bug and Bug 2 were almost identical, but as adults they turned out completely different. Sadly, Bug isn’t here anymore, so now there’s only Bug 2 — but she’s still “2.”
Bug 2 is a bit slim and popular, so the back of her neck is bald — it always is. She’s one of the twenty-something Easter Eggers I bought all at once. At first I didn’t understand their personalities, so a lot of names from that batch overlap.
I’ve always loved her beautiful orange color, and recently I discovered that her eyes are a similar color to her feathers — a paler orange than most chickens’ eyes. So pretty. Okay, back to your food. Thank you for the interview!
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise! See you in the next episode.
