Good morning from Chicken Paradise Hawaii — it’s me and Dolly, under a blue sky.
A week in the bigger room
It’s been about a week since the little ones’ room got bigger. How is it? Looks good! Gin-chan, how old are you this year — six or so? I’ve forgotten! She’s the oldest, and with so many young ones moving in lately, she seems to find them a bit annoying.
Boba came over to complain about something — don’t peck my teeth! (They’re white and shiny, so they caught Boba’s eye.) Then there’s Heart, leader of the room and of all the chickens. Heart, it’s getting hard to keep everyone in line alone, isn’t it? Can I add more roosters? “Nobody told me about this!” Enjoy the big room for a while.
Opal, why are you so tiny? Then Purin, Glico, Nuts, Chobi, Tsuki and Boba. Only the ones who are used to me came over, so nobody reacts to anything. And once again there’s a rooster sitting in a nest box. Who is it? The answer: Chico!
The chicks graduate
The peep-peep squad is on the move — the field is fun! The ducks came out too. Last night I put twelve of these medium-sized chicks into the rescues’ room, so they all spent the night with the grown-ups. Everyone seems fine, which is the main thing.
So from today, there’s no more “chick time” outside for this group. They’ve graduated! The next group of chicks will soon start sleeping at the farm, so chick time should start up again before long. Being scared of the adults, the graduates apparently couldn’t eat much, so now they’re eating like mad. The big sisters and brothers are scary — hang in there!
Meet Turmeric
Turmeric is one of twenty-some Easter Eggers I bought. She was the one who stood out first and came right up to me, so we decided to name her first. She’s curry-colored, so she became Turmeric, the spice used in curry. Her head is very glossy.
She keeps such a low profile that I never know where she is — when it was time for this interview, I couldn’t find her and got a little worried. She lays fairly deep blue eggs, and since she’s small, they’re a bit small too. That’s fine — she’s laying! She turns four this December, so she’s three and a half now, and her whole group is still laying.
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii! See you in the next video.
