Here in the field it’s hot today.
Garden check
Broccoli has grown on the broccoli! What does that mean? Look — on Mr. Broccoli plant, there’s a broccoli. It’s all fluffy. How interesting! Apparently the part we eat is actually the flower buds. When should I harvest it? It’s hard to explain, but… can you see this? We really have broccoli now!
And here’s the blueberry. I thought it would be nothing but flowers forever, but at last one berry has turned a little purple — only the top half, though; the bottom is still green. Please change color quickly, I want a taste!
The other day I cut the top off the calamansi plant. (Out, bugs, out!) Lots of side shoots have come up — nine of them! Grow nice and bushy!
Second-generation chick time
Good morning! Marron’s generation is finally old enough to come out of this basket. So, time for the second generation’s chick playtime. The little ones are still scared and hiding — behind me! Ow, you stepped on me!
In here are five medium-sized chicks. They were part of a neighbor’s request to catch wild chickens, so we caught them. That was hard work! Now that they’re getting used to things, how about playing with the other chicks? In they go, marching right in. Come on, get along! What are you fighting about? That’s a girl. Probably.
These chicks are all siblings, but their colors are completely different. They’re nice and plump, so I think some kind of egg-laying breed is mixed in. And the rooster ratio is high. Oh well, that’s fine.
From a distance, so I don’t startle them: the mother hen and her chicks, down to five chicks now. Everyone is coming outside properly to drink water — one with its neck twisted at an impossible angle!
Garden recovery and a baby papaya
These are the tomatoes Dolly got to. They’re tough — lots of leaves have grown back, faster than I expected. The cucumber, once green and lush, has almost no leaves after Dolly ate them. But with its last strength it’s making one fruit, then two. Sadly, the sun is too strong now and the leaves are scorching, so I think it’s done for.
A friend planted flowers for us, and the little plant in the middle is a baby papaya. I’d been collecting papaya seeds, but when I planted them they hardly sprouted, so my friend bought a seedling. I hope it grows big!
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii! See you in the next video.
