Cat Goods for Natsu — and Happy Gets Bold

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

Good morning, everyone! Ducks, out of the way — I’m getting pushed around! Then I opened up the chicks’ area. You’re full of energy… but why are you nibbling my legs? Good morning to the chicks with swollen eyes, too. Go play!

Happy turns angry

Happy the pigeon was ridiculously scared of everything until recently. But for some reason, today he kept coming right up to my hands, dancing at them and pecking. He was always afraid of hands — why is he suddenly fierce?

I opened the cage a little. That sound is a pigeon’s courting call. Am I being courted, or is he picking a fight? Is it only direct contact that scares him, and through the net is fine? I have no idea. Kiwi was peeking in from the side. Happy has become Angry!

Maybe he’s trying to eat — does he think food will come out of my hand? It won’t. Ouch, that really hurts! Then, suddenly, he went back to being the old Happy — just not scared anymore.

Shopping for Natsu

Today there’s lots of cat corner. I went to a Japanese discount store (there are about three in Hawaii) and bought cat goods for our lovely Natsu.

First, a must: toys, including a ball. She was an outdoor cat and will probably be a half-outdoor cat from now on, so she’ll definitely get fleas — I bought a small flea comb. While she’s little, I take her around in the car, so I got a portable water bottle that lets water collect in a little trough. Whether she likes it is another story! And as proof she’s somebody’s cat, a collar. Since she goes outside, one that comes off when pulled might be safer, so I haven’t decided which to use yet.

And every cat needs a scratching post. I got one with a pole and a spinning toy — the price on the box said 500 yen. I had no idea that store sold such good stuff. Assembly was super easy: put the base together, add the top, screw on the pole, done!

Natsu tries it out

Natsu was in full floppy mode, but I showed it to her: climb this pole, not human legs! At first she seemed to be looking at something completely different. She sniffed the grass, dug in her claws, bit the post, and didn’t seem sure about the carpet texture. She’s not used to it yet.

Then she spotted the ball at the top. She played with it! Good for you, Natsu. You can’t take that ball down with you, though.

Thanks for watching Chicken Paradise! See you in the next episode.
