Cat Rescue: Our Cats Have Multiplied by Five!

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

I introduced Natsu a while ago, and bought Natsu a collar (still a bit loose). Now I’d like to introduce a whole bunch of new cats!

Three kittens from the trapping site

I’ve been catching chickens at a day care facility for the elderly. One night, as I went after chickens sleeping in the trees, these small kittens came swarming over. It seems they had been abandoned. They were very friendly, so I just took them home.

First, the orange one. He’s a boy, and I bought him a collar today. They all purr at the mere sight of a flea comb, so I’m sure they used to be someone’s pets. He doesn’t mind the collar at all.

Next, a tabby girl wearing white — but slightly dirty — socks. She seems a bit sniffly — not quite a cold, but something — and she has a small scratch on her face, maybe from a fight. I bought her a pink collar. This one is awfully friendly.

The third is a girl in light brownish gray with orange patches. She’s a real beauty, but she doesn’t seem to like people very much.

Looking for good homes

First I’ll have these three spayed or neutered and vaccinated, and make sure they’re healthy. Then, if possible, I’d like to give them to people I know — keeping them all would be hard, and the food bills add up. Honestly, though, I’d be happy if they all stayed. (At the time, I asked viewers in Hawaii who could keep me updated on how a cat was doing to get in touch.)

Meet Kanata

And actually, there’s one more cat. This is Kanata — as in “far, far away” in Japanese. I don’t know where she came from. Within a few weeks of getting Natsu, our garbage bags were being torn up. I wondered what was coming, set a trap to find out, and caught this girl.

She’s still quite small. Maybe once she’s used to us she’ll catch mice, we thought, so we put her in this little cat house to see how it goes. At first she hated humans — hissing and complaining nonstop — and touching her was out of the question. Now she’s attached only to me. I can approach her, pet her, and even hold her if I need to.

I’m going to take good care of her too, so I bought her a pretty pink collar. She and Natsu are good friends and are always having strange, very cat-like sparring matches. She used to prick up her ears and growl the moment anyone came near. Now she’s so relaxed she fell asleep while I was filming.

So that was our first cat news in a long time: “Our cats have multiplied by five.” Thanks for watching!
