Booth-Style Dinner for Five Farm Cats (It Sort of Worked)

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

When I feed our five farm cats, including Natsu, they all get mixed up and it turns into a big mess. So today I made lanes out of cardboard and tried feeding them booth-style: one cat per lane.

Five lanes, five cats

Natsu is already hopping over the walls with no trouble at all. The plan: a plate at the end of each of the five lanes, and each cat eats in its own booth. The walls are… sort of there and sort of not. So I have no idea how this will go.

Time to call the cats! Shimako did a triple take (that startled me). Ao appeared for a split second. Natsu jumped in and out. Come on down, everyone! Food in! Will it work? Will they even notice? One barged in right from the side of the course, as if to say, “What is this awkward food dish?”

Shimako and Natsu got it right away. Ao, that’s wrong — get in your slot! Oh, Madara got in… and then didn’t want the food. The others couldn’t settle on a lane. Ao went in after a little push from me, and Fuyuto didn’t come at all. But it looked good: Ao neatly in a narrow lane (well, I put Ao there).

Better than I expected! Shimako was using it in some way of her own. Fuyuto, you’re outside the lanes. Madara, food, here! In the end Fuyuto and Madara decided playing was more important and left. Funny.

Was it worth it?

Honestly, they’re all big enough to eat over the walls, and Ao soon ignored them and started on the neighbor’s food. Still, normally when I line up five plates, everyone eats from the first plate together, then the second, and so on five times. That plate-shuffling is gone, so I think it’s a little better.

When they’re grown up and might need their portions controlled, this could come in handy. For now they’re all kittens under a year old, so they can eat as much as they like.

Then the feed was ready, filled right to the brim, and dry food is back on the menu too. The rest of today’s video is a little chicken photo gallery.

Thanks for watching Chicken Paradise! See you next time.
