Meet Ohana the Rabbit — and Our Entrance Is Suddenly Closed

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

I asked for name ideas for the brown rabbit I got from a shelter — and, would you believe it, the name was decided the very same day. Thank you so much to everyone who sent suggestions!

Meet Ohana

Here’s a hint… the name is Ohana! It just so happens this rabbit turned out to love eating flowers (“ohana” means “flower” in Japanese), so Ohana it is. With such a gentle-looking face and so much cuteness, it seemed a good fit.

But the truth is, Ohana is a real grump, and very angry right now, in fact. Thank you for cooperating with the filming!

Ohana is a rabbit I’m keeping personally, which is why I adopted from a shelter. So cute! Please say hello to Ohana.

Our entrance is closed

Out of the blue, the main entrance we’d always used can’t be used anymore. We cut through the back fence to make a temporary entrance, but carrying things in is hard. That area was never used before, so there’s no real path: it’s uphill, with rocks underfoot.

Why? Apparently the spot where our entrance was is part of the lot our neighbor rents. They’re going to use it, so we were told to make another entrance — with a one-week deadline. Before, I could drive supplies close by. Here we can’t even use a hand cart, so the 25-kilogram feed bags have to be carried by hand, about 50 meters, and lately there are 10 bags. We were told the ground would be leveled, but I don’t know when. We built our building near the entrance, never expecting this. I understand our neighbor’s situation, but I do wish we could have switched over once things were ready.

In the rescue room

These are rescued chickens, getting special treatment in a roomy private room. I hand out food to everyone in there. Trumpet came to beg, and succeeded, while I felt eyes on me from the next cage: “All for yourself?” Piccolo’s tail has grown back beautifully.

Nugget and B-chan are as close as ever, always together. Sonatine loves the camera and comes right up to it. And today Heart is watching over everyone, so all is well. This year Star got to be known by all of you and became quite the star. They all come from different places, but they all get along.

Thanks for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii. See you in the next episode!
