To celebrate our 200th video, I tried a one-camera challenge: walking through the chicken playground and the coop and calling out the name of every bird I could see, one at a time. Some birds live outside this area, so this is just the ones in here. Lately there are quite a few birds without names, so for them I simply said “no name.”
The roll call
It started with Glico, then Taiyo, Sumiko, Ichigo, Ace, Heart, Gin-chan, Purin and Chobi (who didn’t actually make it into the shot). On it went: Lilac, Chico, Piccolo, Ilima, Blue 2, Tsuki, Boba… and Piccolo again. Hazelnut, Fujiko, Nugget, Pumpkin, Shachi, Sonatine, Lavender, Poppy the rooster (“Everyone, stop yelling!”), Mikan, Wakame, Kin-chan, Kuromame, Flare, Kareli, Star, two birds who look like Ace, Nana, Opal, Toast, and Kombu under the table (big sister Kombu was not amused).
Outside the room: Sumiko again, Iruka, Dal, Othello Black, and Lincoln West (such a stylish name). Then Yuhi, plus a “fake Shachi,” a wild bird from next door. Chako, Trumpet (“nice and shiny”), Wamekuko, and Veronica, the only one with a human name. Sonata, Cho, Luna, Jack, Oreo the rooster, Punya, Shiratama, Mitarashi, Echiseana, Salaryman, Monarch, Peanut Butter, Oreo the hen, Bonbori, Grey, Balloon, Cutie, Pro Wrestler (stop coming back!), Okki-chan, Hachimitsu, Black Tiger, Marshmallow, Yukinko, Tease-chan, Marron, Plumeria, Brownie, Cloud, Cinnamon, Sumiko for the third time, Peach, Waikiki, Nazoko, Melona, Kintaro, Min-min…
Then the birds in cages: Shiro, Sumi, and Cheese and Hare-chan (can anyone tell them apart? So easy!). Carl, Moo-chan, Shizuku, Almond, Pineapple, the three quail brothers, Jason, Taro, Asahi (so fluffy), and Walter, a fighting rooster who was once used in a fight and is super quick to start one. Plus Flute, who recently lost a fight when I tried letting him out of his room.
Meet Anko
And last, number 163: Anko. He’s a rooster, but I gave him a cute name. His mother is Azuki (red beans), so he became Anko (sweet red-bean paste). Lately he’s been looking more like a rooster and has become really beautiful. His eyes are big, so they get inflamed easily. (Nobody needed that explanation, ha.)
163 birds, and counting
Rewatching the video, birds kept wandering in and out, so I don’t know the real total. But for now I called out 163 birds, names or “no name,” and about twenty of them turned out to have no name yet. So I’m thinking of giving those twenty-some birds names.
I talk to everyone every day while I take care of them, so even with this many, I can tell them all apart. Fun! And we’ve reached 200 videos. Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise!
