Playground 2 Is Open: Double the Space for the Chickens

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

It’s a gorgeous day. Over there is the chicken coop, and beyond it the coop’s playground. For a long time we’d planned a Playground 2 on this side as an extension. I’d even bought the materials, but never got started. Now I finally have!

Building Playground 2

This net is exactly the same set as the one on the other playground, and it will double the playground’s size. Look, Natsu, this used to be a field. (Natsu is busy playing with dead grass.)

One problem: the papaya I worked so hard to grow, the one Dolly broke and that came back, is in a very awkward spot. And yet it finally has fruit! At last, and now it’s in the way. A real design error, and I planted it there myself. For now I’ve squeezed it so it grows outside the playground.

I left as much grass as possible. The chickens would probably make it bald within about three days, but some may want to lay eggs or raise chicks in it. The long blue-painted boards are scrap wood given to me by an acquaintance. Reuse, and I’m grateful! The playground’s corner stretches over to the pigeon house, so even if we can’t fly the pigeons outside, they could fly inside the playground.

Opening day

Playground 2 is done! The roof seems a bit high… just my imagination. Humans can’t get through the grass, so we come in from here. Moo-chan’s house, which used to be outside, is now inside, so roosters can come at him from every direction. And because the pigeon house is connected, when rain or wind gets bad, the pigeons can come out into this playground again.

I took the board off, and nobody noticed. “Cho, look! It’s open!” Sorry, Cho, that’s your blind side. They were more interested in bugs coming out from under the board. Then a little bullying at the border. It’s too hot and no one is motivated. Snacks did it in the end (they really only care about snacks), and then everyone vanished into the bushes. The ducks seem to be having more fun than I expected.

Oreo, this is the third time your surroundings have changed this much. You must be used to it by now. When you were a chick, you lived somewhere full of grass like this. Surprisingly, the guinea fowl took the lead. Sonata, don’t step on the guinea fowl! Then I escorted the old ladies, Gin-chan, Purin, Toast and Glico. “No way, grass!” Over the next hours or days, I think everyone will notice, “Hey, it’s open over here!” No complaints so far.

Thanks for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii. See you in the next episode!
