Hello from Chicken Paradise Hawaii! I caught a cold and took a few days off, so my voice is very nasal. I can’t hit high notes at all, so I’m talking low. At this point you might wonder who’s talking.
Bananas on the way
The bananas have grown quite big. I asked someone who farms for a living, and apparently it takes about five months from when the flowers open until the first fruit can be harvested. A long road, but they’re rounding out nicely. When the typhoon came, it blew all the flowers off, so there are quite a few spots with no fruit at all. I hope the lower part fruits again. Hang in there, bananas. Even one for the chickens would be nice!
New boots
My boots finally gave out after two years, so I bought new ones: the cheapest, shiniest pair, about 2,000 yen, from a big discount store everyone in America loves. I got the size a bit wrong, so they’re big. Yay, no more mud inside my boots! (That’s just normal, I know.)
Iroha’s new collar
Our farm dog Iroha is getting bigger, so I bought him a new collar. The old one still fits, but it’s thin and I felt a bit sorry for him, so I got a thicker one. Iroha, come. Sit. He doesn’t listen. Sit! Stop moving! Off comes the old one: goodbye! I matched the size, roughly. But with my different voice, and probably a different smell, he ran off.
Then the thick strap wouldn’t go through the buckle. I didn’t know that. I’ve never had a dog before, and I didn’t know my first dog would be this hyper. Don’t eat my headphones! Don’t turn around, you’ll pinch your ear! Finally, it fits. Cute! A bit chunky, maybe a little loose. Even easygoing Iroha seems to notice it. It has a little jingly tag, which I’ll probably take off later.
Around the coop
Heart, aren’t you with Star today? There’s Star, facing the wall. Inspecting the nest boxes? Don’t squabble; there’s room next door. This spot is popular today, even though the top is empty, right, Brownie? There’s a rooster in here too: Pineapple loves the nest box. Luna has finished laying and is taking a break. Good job today!
Natsu’s collar check
Natsu, I heard your collar is tight. It doesn’t look tight, but I have to check. Natsu started out as a stray, so she doesn’t really say “meow,” more like “mmm.” Oh, she’s saying it! She says no. Now she’s furious. But we can’t have the collar getting tight.
Thanks for watching, and see you next time, hopefully with my real voice back!
