A Duck Drops In, and Our Friendly Hens Get Jealous

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

Good morning from Chicken Paradise Hawaii. It’s cloudy today.

A visitor from the sky

Here’s why the chickens were making such a racket. This one isn’t ours! A huge bird-shaped shadow suddenly swooped down, and the guinea fowl were calling “Danger! Danger!” I went to look, and there she was, sitting on the roof of the pigeon coop.

She’s a duck, a girl, and surprisingly friendly. I only brought her in yesterday. I think she escaped from another farm — probably the same place our Julietta originally came from.

Speaking of Julietta, she’s right behind, making a face. Oh, she’s angry! Any thoughts, Julietta? A relative? An old friend? She seems to be saying, “Never seen her before.” One glare from Julietta and the newcomer was off. Even the rooster made it clear she’s not one of us. Poor thing, they’re really leaving her out. This one loves to fly, too. Mint, meanwhile, is so used to newcomers by now that she couldn’t care less.

A little ouch

Then I went in with the hens, including this year’s chicks, now grown up. Some of them crowd in wanting to be picked up, and the others get jealous. Chickens that are attached to you can be very jealous of each other! Everyone is half picking a fight. One climbed onto my back. Another tried to eat my headphones. I only have two hands!

Barbie came over too, looking very scruffy, but as calm as if to say, “I’m a grown-up now.”

Checking on everyone

Down below is Sumire, who is also black. Sumire is fierce right now — she bit me yesterday, and she puffs her neck up to twice its size. Yes, she’s very angry. And Sumire bites. Ouch.

Next door is Namonakimono, whose name means “the nameless one.” There’s also a hen who really has no name, and she looks exactly like Namonakimono — they’re twins. Above them is Fujiko. Then here comes the scary one: Kombu. Ouch!

Hello, Gri-chan, how are you? She answered with a chirp. Lavender, Pumpkin, Kin-chan — how is everyone? All fine, it seems.

Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii! See you in the next episode.
