Farm Notes — January 2023: Pen-chan’s New Year, the Freshest Egg on Rice and Marching Ducks

Every few days we post a short clip from the farm on YouTube. Here are all fourteen from January in one place — tap any of them to play it right here.

Around the farm

Pen-chan opened the year with a Happy New Year greeting. Something appeared as if summoned, and we made egg on rice with an egg collected just one minute earlier — about as fresh as it gets. We also met Prince, and somebody needed reminding that that spot is not the nest box.

Chicks on the move

Chicks eat mealworms too — in a single gulp. Later in the month, the chicks went out to explore the vegetable garden.

Cat corner

The cats did a little sparring. One of them took on an important job as guardian of the flies, and a kitten climbed up and then couldn’t get back down.

Tortoises and ducks

One tortoise got stuck by the jaw. A duck lost its waterproofing — its oil had run out — and ended up soaking wet. We found out what happens when a tortoise and a chicken go for a walk together, and the ducks closed the month with a march.
