Happy 2024! New Year’s Greetings and a Cat in a Hammock

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

Hello from Chicken Paradise Hawaii! Grey and Namonakimono have joined me for our New Year’s greeting. One of them is asleep.

Happy New Year 2024

Happy New Year! We came to this farm land in February 2022, so this February it will be two whole years. Nobody here is listening to me, by the way. Thank you for being with us again this year.

Many of our birds are becoming grandpas and grandmas, so the members change a lot, but there are also tons of new chicks. Why do chickens multiply so much? Grey turns seven this year, and Namonakimono, I believe, turns six. The old-timers spend their days dozing, while the young ones make a racket. It looks like another wild year ahead. Could you open your eyes and say “Happy New Year,” please? No. Impossible.

The roof hammock

Natsu was the pioneer who invented the roof hammock, lounging in the netting on top. And now, unbelievably, her little sister Hanabi is copying her over there. Is it really that comfy, Hanabi? One of Hanabi’s eyes was injured, so she can’t judge distances well and doesn’t get to enjoy mouse hunting much. Instead she copies others and comes up with fun ideas. You’re heavy, so please don’t break the net!

Around the farm

An out-of-season storm is on its way, so it’s cloudy. Udon has grown a lot: his comb has turned red and his tail is getting longer. We hope he becomes a fine rooster, though for now he still peeps.

We opened the youngsters’ kindergarten the other day, so small birds are wandering all over. Milk Tea, how do you like your new home? Tomoko has perked up, maybe a little too much, since she’s pecking at the youngsters. The white one is named Cappuccino; the brown one doesn’t have a name yet. Ryu always seems to be with Flute. Has he become Flute’s apprentice? Haku is just below them. Basil and Okki-chan, who rather likes the camera, come over to say hi.

The nest boxes are unusually busy today; Pearl, isn’t that box a bit small for you? And just as I finished filming, Natsu moved right over my head to get into the frame. She went out of her way!

Thank you for watching, and best wishes for the new year!
