This is Happy’s husband, one of the pigeons we’re looking after. And Happy’s babies have been born!
Happy becomes a mom
Happy is so used to people that she has no trouble threatening them. Ouch, she’s furious! Meanwhile, her husband is calmly looking after the kids. Happy, I think you’re supposed to be the one caring for them, not the one fighting.
Happy was raised by people, so she doesn’t really know what she’s doing. A little while ago she stepped on a chick and made a mess of the nest. Will they grow up all right? If you try to peck your babies with that beak, that’s a no! Take good care of them. If it looks like you can’t raise them well, I’m going to step in. Are you listening? Good luck!
They’re only a day old — really just a few hours. How cute, and so small! The two are almost the same size. Both parents are grayish-black pigeons, and the babies take after them with dark coloring. Baby pigeons start with fuzzy yellow down, so it’s hard to tell what color they’ll be, but ones with black beaks usually turn out gray like Happy. Happy thinks she’s being scary right now. You’re just being cute!
A baby tortoise and her new food
Long time no see, little tortoise! We have five tortoises. Please don’t back up — you’ll fall off. This one is a little short on calcium, so I bought a food made just for small tortoises.
Natsu! That’s not for you! Not for Shimako either! What are you eating? It’s grass — cats don’t eat grass! And off they ran, very fast.
The grass gets wiped out, so please eat this instead. Once she’s a bit bigger she’ll be able to eat the kinds of grass I want her to eat, but she’s still too much of a baby. She can’t reach, so she’s chewing on the plate? Then — she ate! I was so surprised, since it looks dry and not very tasty.
She kept chewing the plate, so I changed tactics and put the food on the floor, at the same height as her. Please eat it, tortoise food is expensive! Don’t walk across it! And… she’s eating, munch munch. Is there anything else in the world this plain but this interesting?
So if I buy tortoise food, she’ll eat it. Thank goodness! I hope the extra calcium helps her shell grow a little faster. See you next time!
