Morning Chores, Full Nest Boxes — and Broody Hens Are Seriously Scary

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

Good morning! This episode is another look at our daily routine. Most of it is told in captions over music, so just come along with me as the morning chores get started.

Breakfast time

First, food. Everyone loves mash (feed mixed with water into a soft porridge), so breakfast is a popular moment. Good morning, Glico! There’s a tiny little old lady in the crowd, and Kuromame too.

Then there’s Hiyo-chan. Hmm… did somebody lose a fight?

The nest boxes

Next, the egg run. The nest boxes are a full house again today. I collect the duck eggs as well as the chicken eggs. There’s a “What’s this?” moment, and before reaching in I announce myself: “Coming in!”

This is where the title comes from. A broody hen (a hen who has decided to sit on her eggs until they hatch) does not want my hand anywhere near her. She lets out a furious screech. She’s really angry! Hens in the brooding phase are seriously scary.

Oh, that one’s big! This spot is always tough, and here’s another “What on earth is this?”

Finishing up

By now the sky is getting lighter. Nana is doing well. Someone keeps begging: “Give me something! Won’t you give me anything?” I also stopped by Her Majesty Natsu, our farm cat, and the goats. Chickens and a cat, all taken care of.

Last job: topping up everyone’s water. And with that, the morning care is finished for the day.

Thank you for spending the morning with us at Chicken Paradise. See you in the next episode!
