Good morning! Star hurt his tail, so he slept alone for one night. Basil is standing by — are you waiting? You really want to get in there.
Morning feeding
In the morning we top up the feed. Feed mixed with water is called mash (there’s also a video on how to make it). Then: chicks open! Once they’re outside they eat, drink, dust-bathe, and spend their time freely. Ducks and chickens live together just fine. Here’s a gathering of small chickens, and some pigeons that haven’t been on video lately, and a quail too.
Each private room gets its food refilled. I spill a little on purpose so the chickens come over to eat. One hen found the pigeon food and dug in, and soon the others noticed and gathered round. A very popular spot.
Meet Lincoln
This beautiful rooster, a reddish brown, comes from a residential area deep in the mountains, where having too many chickens had become a problem. A woman there keeps track of the wild chickens, and she’s the one catching them for us. This boy came with a wonderful name: Lincoln, like the US president.
He has such a strong name, but he’s a bit of a pushover. I just let him out for the first time. He’s so big that everyone is too scared to do anything — or maybe they’re looking at him thinking, “So big, and yet so weak.” How’s the food? It’s the same inside and outside, you know.
Nana is getting cross in the background. Star comes over to look. Lincoln quietly slips into a room… and oops, here comes Piccolo to kick him. Retreat! He still looks young, so I hope he’ll get along with everyone from now on.
Taro’s big jump
Then I let Taro out. Are you happy? Let’s hug! He wandered around for a bit… and then did a vertical jump of about 60 cm (2 feet). Wow! It’s a little hot, so let’s move to the shade, and play again later.
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise! See you next time.
