Good morning! Chico, number two in the ranks, launches a serious kick from behind Star — and Star dodges it. Leader Heart, don’t you join in! Good morning over here, too. It’s cool this morning.
Three tiny chicks
Ta-da! Can you see? A little bundle of cuteness: three chicks.
They were found, so I went to pick them up. They were born in the garden of Iolani Palace. Their mother was killed, and one of their siblings was found dead. These three were outside the office there. They’re tiny — about half the size of a normal chick. They’re safe and protected now, and I’ll take good care of them.
This one has a funny yellowish face — so cute — and looks like a black bear. This one is a stylish shade of brown I’ve never seen before. And the last one is a regular black chick. Where’s everyone going? Into the flower bed? Chicks and flowers — lovely. Oops, they tumbled over. Please keep an eye on them. I wonder what names they’ll get?
In the front garden
The grass in the front garden has grown, so I’m mowing. Over this fence, we’re going to plant cucumbers. The grass goes to the chickens too, cut short so it’s easier to eat.
Happy is out in the open now, but he shows no sign of flying off — he’d rather be with people than pigeons. The chickens gather whenever I work in the garden, and Pen-chan is helping out too. I picked some fresh strawberries. I planted corn here before, but the rats ate it and it never sprouted, so the bed is being redone.
Meet B-chan
Ta-da! Her crest is all puffed up, she has long legs, and she’s slim all over. This is B-chan; her full name is Marbles. We already have a girl named Bee, so this one is just the single letter: B-chan.
She came to us from someone who does rescue work. That person is starting college and stopping the rescue, with no time to find homes for the last few birds, so I decided to take her.
Look at that head — so distinctive. She’s a bit like a roadrunner. Roadrunner style! My guess: one of her parents is related to a breed called Polish — the same kind as Star, who’s over there looking big and bossy. After a couple of generations you get a small crest like hers, so I think she’s probably part Polish, and the other side is probably wild chicken. She’s still small and will surely grow bigger. I love that head!
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii! See you in the next video.
