Good morning! The door just broke — the lock gave out. Well, okay. If it breaks, I’ll just fix it.
Look closely: someone had been hiding in here, and was very frightened. The chickens didn’t seem to mind at all. The little ones love this spot.
The wheat in the cage
Today I’d like to hold a wheat party. This is wheat I’ve been growing in a cage. I wasn’t trying to grow any grain — chickens like grass, so I grew it for them to eat. All this time the chickens have been nibbling it from the outside wherever their beaks could reach, chop, chop, chop, until it was trimmed square like a bonsai. I don’t think it will grow any more, so I’m going to open it up and let them enjoy it.
Let’s open!
The first to notice is the little aunties team, and then Chico, who calls everyone over. A slow start — good. This will probably be gone in half a day, so I want it to last as long as possible.
Wakame was digging somewhere totally unrelated at first. She finally noticed the grass… and went back to digging in the dirt. Wakame is more of a bug girl than a grass girl. Sonatine is eating so fast she’s choking a little — are you okay? Orihime, our silkie, joins in. She’s a little clumsy, but cute. The Kombu and Wakame team seems more interested in the soil and keeps knocking down the roots. Please stop that — it’ll be gone in no time.
The big girls aren’t coming at all. Oops — here come the ducks! Ducks are said to be the goats of the bird world, they love grass so much.
Meet Ringo
This duck finally has a proper name: Ringo. When the ducklings were little I couldn’t really tell them apart, but this one was so pushy that I just called him “the cheeky one.” Then I decided he deserved a real name. The bump on his beak was red like an apple, so he became Ringo (“apple”). He’s a boy. Cute!
The big ones arrive
Finally the big ones notice: Cho and Balloon. Seeing that, Kin-chan charges at a chicken about ten times Kin-chan’s size. Kin-chan, you don’t have to be so angry! Then Heart comes over. Heart is a good boy — he picks grass for the girls and shares it with them. So peaceful.
I left them to it. Guess how long this much grass lasted? The wheat that took three weeks to grow was wiped out in two hours. I’ll sow some more seeds here and grow it again.
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise! See you next time.
