Every few days we post a short clip from the farm on YouTube. Here are all thirty-one from October 2024 in one place — tap any of them to play it right here.
Meet the cats
October brought a whole line-up of cats. Natsuo looks like a cat in black pants and has a one-of-a-kind face, while Waffle is an orange tabby with a very unusual tail. Sapphire is a Siamese, but the very relaxed type, and little black Nero is a good boy who gets along with everyone. Raiden looks like a manul (a wild Pallas’s cat), which goes to show you can’t judge a cat by its looks.

Farm cats at work (and rest)
The orange cat army seemed to be growing, and Natsu didn’t look too pleased about it. The cats know exactly which water tastes best, and security captain Natsu found a surprising spot for her nap — farm cats are busy! One cat jumped up on the car hood to greet me (nice, but don’t burn yourself), and a kitten and a chicken seemed to swap meals.

The rooster corner
One rooster’s blue face makes him look like a vampire, and Hare-chan was in great shape, feathers and comb both. Hiyo-chan isn’t white, but he’s a Leghorn all the same, and long-legged Dyson, a fighting-breed rooster, looked a bit odd taking a dust bath. A small rooster guarded a big hen, a rooster picked up at a convenience store traded 24-hour life for a natural one, and Lou showed off a stylish comb. One rooster even let himself into the tortoise’s house.

Hens and the hungry flock
The chickens fought over apples (no hogging!), and someone left a neat pile of eggs — who did it? A shy, beautiful white hen and strong-willed Kombu showed just how different hens can be. The chickens are peaceful and follow their rules, but at mealtime they can’t wait for anything and jump the gun every time.

Rainbows, chicks, ducks and a pigeon
A double rainbow reminded us that this really is paradise — and that every chicken here was once a chick. Lute, a sweet hand-raised pigeon, moved into the pigeon house, and our Muscovy duck family has grown up so much that mother and children look alike. The rules of human society can feel harsh when the earth belongs to everyone: some chicks had been left scattered in the rain, and we hope they’ll always be happy.
