Good morning from Chicken Paradise Hawaii — it’s me and Pen-chan. Another blue sky today. Good morning, everyone! Wow, there are a lot of you.
Chick time, take two
Here are Marron and the gang (the older sister just shares the cage with them). Come on out, someone! The first one out is our junior, Banana. Cute! And, as you can see, a rooster. Go on, call everyone — tell them it’s fun! Nobody’s coming… Hello? It looks like it’ll be a while before we have a proper chick playtime.
Still, I’m relieved they got through their stay at the farm safely. Marron is everyone’s big brother, but he’s actually a big scaredy-cat and a sweetheart. Banana and Cloud seem fine.
Sumi the babysitter
Sumi, our rooster, is babysitting for me. Chicks aren’t good at controlling their body temperature, so they get heatstroke easily. Sumi is black and doesn’t like the heat either, so he leads everyone into the shade. How kind of you, Sumi!
A runaway quail
The other day I found a quail in front of the farm and took it in for now. It seems it escaped from a neighboring farm. I let the owner know, and was told I could keep it.
It’s about the same size as the girls of UZR48, our quail troupe, and Fujiko is already trying to intimidate it. Quail aren’t what they look like — they’re very strong-willed, quick to puff themselves up round like a pufferfish. Can the troupe accept a newcomer? This one is white, cute and a little mysterious. I hope it gets along with everyone.
A hot day around the farm
It’s hot again today. Pen-chan is crazy about sprouts, and Yukinko is busy bathing in the bedding. The little ones like squeezing into small spaces, and Dolly is all about the grass outside. Food tastes better when we eat together.
The egg-laying hens are heavy, so to keep them from hurting their feet when they jump up to the perch or land, we added a ramp to the perching tree. I filmed from outside to check whether it’s working — and they’re using it well. I’m glad!
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii! See you in the next video.
