The rain has stopped! This is the spot where the tortoises’ playground is going to be. I’ve planted flowers here first: tortoises eat them, so I want the plants to grow up before the tortoises move in.
Flowers first
There are new violas, plus something called SunPatiens, which seems to have taken root nicely. This other one actually comes from a huge plant at our house, about 60 centimeters across. I split off a little piece and planted it, not sure it would grow, and it’s doing just fine. The violas were on sale, so I bought them. They were a bit withered, but they’ve recovered.
Oh, Natsu, you really like the tortoises, don’t you? I’m filming right now… Want a flower on your head? “What a nuisance,” she says. Natsu, those are tortoises, don’t touch! See, the poor thing has frozen stiff. Meanwhile the other one is munching leaves without a care in the world: “I’ve been here the whole time! Nothing’s changed!” It’s eating the flowers, so dexterous for such a little one. Then Ao got stuck in the flower bed. Stop, Ao, you’ll crush the flowers! This is the tortoises’ place, you know.
Corn, and cats in the sun
Time to get to work. Ao is eating grass alongside us. Nobody was eating the corn, so I called everyone over. Look, here’s some corn. It’s no different from what’s over there, but still. A minute ago everyone was ignoring it, and now here they come.
Shimako, your tongue is sticking out! It’s so hot, are you okay? Why not go into the shade? You’re right in the sun. Not bothered in the least. Ao, you’re in the sun too. Equally unbothered.
Moo-chan’s new room
This roomy outdoor room used to house the fearsome Kirin. Now I’ve put the fearsome Moo-chan in here instead. Kirin had a bad leg and never quite figured out the perch, but Moo-chan’s legs are fine, so he always sits at the very top. He’s furious about something. Isn’t it nice out here? All the grass you can eat! …Boring, apparently.
Keeping one rooster out here is surprisingly handy: when a wild hen wanders in, he calls to her. Except Moo-chan kicks the hens he calls over. He’s not the brightest. Now he’s demanding food. What a big comb you have! Believe it or not, Moo-chan was actually cute when he was tiny. That’s a story for another day. He’s scary, so I’m not opening the door.
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii! See you in the next episode.
