Our Farmer’s Day Off: Mom Serves Breakfast on a Rainy Morning

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

Good morning from Chicken Paradise Hawaii! Our farmer is taking the day off today, so I — Mom — am filling in.

Hawaii has something like a rainy season and a cooler season, and since November started we’ve been getting more rain. This morning there’s a light drizzle too. Everyone is in a flap because they haven’t had breakfast yet.

New perches and a new roof

Yesterday we added more perches. How are they? Comfortable? And since the rain is picking up, we added some extra roof too. Are you using it? Well… they’re sitting on top of it. That works too, I suppose.

Breakfast, slowly

I’m not as quick as our farmer, so everyone, please wait! Wait, wait. I put out a little feed first and then made the mash. Don’t fight! Ducks, please wait a moment too. Chickens and ducks both love mud, but breakfast at least should be eaten somewhere clean. There are feeders set up outside, too, so the birds out there can eat. And the roof is getting used — good.

One of the birds from the little ones’ room came running — they can eat better out here, since it’s crowded in there. Then Iruka. Iruka had a fight yesterday and had a rough time. Are you okay? There’s a little scab on his comb.

Mint and the quieter hens

Oh, Mint is here. Good morning, Mint — you’re all muddy! Over here are the hens who are lower in the pecking order. Mint, want some? Here you go. They’re rescues, so they aren’t very used to people yet.

The nights are getting chilly, so everyone loves being under this table. Purin, were you cold last night too? Gri-chan, someone said you looked like a rapper in one of our Shorts — that means you’re cool, right? And next to Soy, Glico looks small.

Have another happy, healthy day, everyone! Thanks for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii.
