Hello from Chicken Paradise Hawaii! What on earth happened here? Huh? Huh? What? That’s exactly how I feel. But I already know who did it.
The culprit
Our neighbor keeps pigs, including a big one we guess weighs about 250 kilograms. Sometimes a hungry pig wanders over to our side.
Honestly, part of this is my fault. During an earlier storm with heavy wind and rain, I saw our neighbor’s chickens stuck in an enclosure with no roof, getting soaked with nowhere to hide. I couldn’t leave them like that, so I cut through the fence netting to help them. I never fixed that hole. So the pigs found it: “Oh, there’s an opening, let’s go ask for food.”
And my second mistake: the last time a visitor came, it was a little piglet, so I gave it food and water. It ate and ate until I said, “That’s enough!” and sent it home. I think this time a grown-up came, after hearing from the little one that there was food here. Everyone is a bit to blame, me included.
Cleaning up
This spot had a half-built inner door I’d paused working on, my tools, a pile of dirty things waiting to be washed, and cages that also needed washing. Now it’s all scattered. It’s fine. It’s fine.
My precious plants were in here, and a little pond. Last year Fuyuto knocked it over. I knew it was a cat because the plants were left behind, so I figured the fish had been eaten. This year a pig? You’re kidding! And this time nothing is left at all. Natsu, listen to this: I grow water plants, and they’re expensive!
Then there’s the sink, knocked over and heavy. I decided to just use brute strength, careful not to run over a cat who sat down right in the way, as if waiting for me. Could it have been you who knocked over the table? No, no, of course not.
One heave, and the sink is more or less back. The handle is bent — broken, actually — and I couldn’t find the missing piece. It got mixed up with broken plastic and mud. As long as the water doesn’t leak and comes out when I need it, I’ll manage. I did find a sponge, though!
Making peace
One cat took one look at Hanabi and backed off with a “What now?” face. Please get along! It seems I’m allowed to pet them by way of apology. Well, that’s something.
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii! See you in the next episode.
