We had terrible rain, and the road to the farm is in a real state. No car can get through. At the home nearest the road, two doors down, water came rushing along their driveway, got blocked by a gap, and sprayed out like a shower as it headed downhill. Our next-door neighbor’s house itself is fine, but the water poured along the path through a spot where a river used to run long ago. So this was a river once! Our own place is fine. What a relief.
Just the usual mud
This was wildly out-of-season rain, and as you can see, our farm is just in its usual muddy state. Fine… I think? Some of the chickens are muddy right up to that joint on their legs. I don’t actually know where a chicken’s knee is. Sorry, I’m saying silly things in what’s supposed to be a news report.
Look at this bucket: this much rain fell in a single night. I also went to check that the newcomers were all right, and they seem to be okay.
Two doors down it’s a river, with water up to a human’s knees. Rain boots are useless at that height, because the water just pours in over the top. Sadly you can’t really see how wet my pants are.
Purin seemed a little under the weather today.
Two good things about the rain
The ducks are having as much fun as ever, which is the main thing. And the rain did bring exactly two good things.
First, the water in the pond got changed automatically, whether we liked it or not. The tiny floating leaves all washed out onto the ground, as you can see. But thanks to the fresh water, the bigger duckweed has had an explosion of growth.
Second, if you look closely in the water, the guppies have shot up and grown huge. Fish do grow when you change their water, but I didn’t expect them to get this big. I’m glad the fish didn’t spill out with the overflow. I didn’t find a single one on the ground, so I think they’re okay. Or else the ducks already collected them…
The ducks are out taking a happy walk through the mud. They love mud, and now that there’s more mud, their walking area has grown too.
This road, though: no matter how many times I look at it, it’s amazing. And now I have to go along it.
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii. Stay safe, and see you next time!
