Good morning — to the chickens, and to the whole family.
Low perches for the middle chicks
Before I opened up, everyone was gathered at the door. Basil wanted to go into his room.
For the middle-sized chicks, I set up some low perches. Nuts, who is not a middle chick at all, gave them a try first. When I looked the next day, the chicks were using them properly.
Seven ducklings
Now, everyone, what are these? No need to ask — ducks! One, two, three, four, five, six, seven of them.
Once again, they came from our neighbor next door. He says a friend of his runs a farm. They weren’t trying to raise more ducks, but a female duck hatched a clutch on her own, and by the time anyone noticed, the babies were already born. The owner was ready to get rid of them, so our neighbor took them home.
But seven ducklings are a lot of work, and he said he only wanted two. When I asked what he was going to do, he asked me, “Do you want them?” I said, “I don’t want them, but I’ll take them.” So I’m raising them. He’d like grown-up ducks, so when they’re adults I’ll give him two. The rest will become Parsley’s friends.
Hey Parsley, look — they’re the same as you, just a little smaller. Parsley didn’t care one bit. One of the ducklings has a bad leg, and our neighbor asked me to look at it, so I’ll check on her later.
Into the big pool
Parsley, how are your first ducks? Why not go in and say hello? Nope. So that the new little ducks feel this is a nice place, I tossed them all into the big grown-ups’ pool. I couldn’t hold them all at once! In they went — splash! It’s so roomy. (Only for now.) They swam in sync.
These ones aren’t used to people at all. My personal favorite is the one that’s brown all over. Sorry, you don’t like people. Oh — out it went.
Last of all, I put Parsley in — and all the ducklings climbed right out! Why? They’re still getting used to things, so let’s see how it goes. Parsley looks happy, and the farm just got livelier again.
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise! See you in the next episode.
