Garden Lettuce for the Flock — and Meet Parsley the Duckling

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

Good morning from Chicken Paradise Hawaii. It’s another blue-sky day.

Morning hellos

When I opened the chicks’ room, out they came. You’ve gotten so big! Good morning, Chako. Banana, your feet are dirty! But wow, your wing feathers are so clean — beautiful. Cloud is all fluffy (ouch!), and good morning to Marron, too.

Then I caught Beanstalk rolling an egg around. Beanstalk, why are you rolling eggs when you’re a rooster? And that’s a duck egg, anyway.

Lettuce for everyone

The lettuce was very popular last time, so I harvested more from the garden for the chickens. It has grown nice and firm, ready to eat. I handed it out right away, and once again it was a big hit.

I saved a little for the little ones, too. Some went to Waikiki, who loves lettuce, some to her family from her wild days, and some to the birds up on the high perches, all squeezed together. Want some, Chako? Here comes Cloud! Marshmallow gave me quite a fright.

The chicks got leaves. The ducks, like Basil, went for the roots instead of the leaves. One little bird spotted leaves in the back but was too scared to go for them.

Then I noticed a bit of sibling rivalry starting between some of the youngsters. Their mother stepped in to stop it. One of them was frowning, cross and grumbling something, but the fight was over. Everyone is full of lettuce today.

Meet Parsley

Today I’d like to introduce Parsley, a duckling. I posted a YouTube Short of Parsley when Parsley was tiny — I hope you enjoyed it.

Parsley gets bigger every day. It has been about a month since we found this little one on the farm, and where Parsley came from is still a mystery. I think Parsley got in through a gap in the playground — and even escaped from a cat’s clutches. A real miracle survivor.

Parsley’s chest is speckled now, and day by day Parsley is going from chick to grown-up. I’ll keep you posted, so stay tuned!

Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii! See you in the next video.
