The Chick Rolling Festival: Our New Chicks Go Outside

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

We have lots of chicks right now, and I want all of them to get some time playing outside. So today we’re holding a “Chick Rolling Festival” — one group at a time, out they go!

Group one: six from a trapping site

First up, group one: six guests. (Hey, don’t back up, don’t back up!) These chicks came from a site where chickens were being trapped. Their mother hens were caught, the chicks were scattered all over the place outside, and rounding them up was a real job.

How cute are they! The smallest one seems to have been born premature. Maybe that happens a lot there — this is the third premature chick we’ve had from that place. They come from the same place as Niji.

Group two: the rocket launchers

Next, group two: our “rocket launchers,” Komugi and Koishi. They aren’t related by blood, but they’re close like siblings. True to their nickname, they shot right out. Nice!

Group three: the fluffy, chubby team

And finally, the fluffy, chubby team. These chicks hatched on their own next door, from our egg-laying hens, so they’re probably a mix of egg-laying breeds. Twelve of them in all!

Wait — is anyone getting squished in there? That’s a little scary. Come on, in you go. They really are chubby. And that’s everyone!

A peaceful little space (mostly)

What is this? What a peaceful little space. For some reason Natsu, our cat, is back there eating grass. Feeling like a chicken today, Natsu? Don’t worry, I won’t touch you. Are you asleep? Oh, you’re awake!

About one chick is lying flat out. Someone seems to be asking, “Are you okay? Are you okay?” — no, actually it’s just pecking at people’s faces. Over here, a few have found a chick with a pattern they’ve never seen before and are picking on it. Is that chick all right? And this one was sound asleep… and got stepped on.

I don’t really know how things will go from here, but I hope every one of them grows up safe and sound.

Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise! See you in the next episode.
