Our sunflowers have bloomed! Sunflowers mean summer, and summer means watermelon. The watermelons I planted won’t even sprout, so I bought one to share with everyone.
How to open it?
Everyone is watching with great interest. Some told me that if they can’t eat it right away, they’re going home. I’d love to smash it with a stick, but the chickens would come running and it would be dangerous. So how should I do it? I asked one of our newcomers who doesn’t have a name yet — no answer. Cutie, what do you think? It’s hard. So I cut it open, and inside it was bright, bright red.
Watermelon time
Nobody noticed at first. It’s watermelon! It’s been a long time, and some of you are trying it for the first time. Peanut only has one eye, but is always right up front. Lincoln somehow already fits right in. A little chick arrives — go for it! The little ones are doing their best. Cutie, you finally made it. And since the aunties wouldn’t come out, I delivered some to their room.
Mikan is eating watermelon — isn’t that funny? (Mikan means mandarin orange.) Purin, named after a pudding, is eating watermelon. Wakame, named after seaweed, is eating watermelon. Kin-chan, is it good? So juicy. The ducks join in, and lots of nameless newcomers too. Sonatine was eating over there as well. Please don’t peck people’s heads!
Tsuki is here. Oh — someone just pooped on my back. It’s okay, it was a dry one. Fujiko, is it good? Don’t step in it, or it’ll get all over your feet. Bee and Nugget arrive. Then the huge Howl — what are you here for? To eat, or to startle everyone? He’s this big, but he still has baby fluff on the back of his head. And our steady Gin-chan, whose head is permanently bald in the back. Dal’s legs are so long that someone is eating from between them!
A few hours later
After a few hours the rind was down to about 5 mm. Amazing, everyone! When I came out to check, they suddenly remembered the watermelon and came back, thinking they might get something. The small ones’ room got a little less than half, and that’s empty too.
So, big or small, whatever breed — chickens love watermelon. Maybe a bit too much!
Thanks for watching Chicken Paradise! See you in the next episode.
