What Happens When Chickens Hear a Whistle Candy?

Watch the episode (in Japanese)

Good morning! This is Kintaro, Kin-chan’s partner, though he isn’t with Kin-chan. Over here are the roosters at their most mischievous age. Rosemary has been laying lots of eggs lately. And the prince’s hair is flapping in the breeze (laughs).

Everyone was eating nicely together when a mighty Oreo came down. One threat, and the prince withdrew. Cinnamon is always losing feathers. Basil thinks he’s a chicken, and for some reason he has lately been doing rooster Trumpet’s job for him. The guinea fowl keeps watch from up high, wary of the camera. Its face is so white it looks painted on.

The whistle candy test

Hawaii has quite a few stores of a big Japanese discount chain. Three? I forget how many. Japanese goods cost a little more there, but you can buy them, so today I bought a whistle candy: a candy you can blow like a whistle. The ones sold here have a sticker for the US listing what’s inside and the nutrition facts. Let’s see how the chickens react when I blow it.

First, the little ones’ room. Here we go… (laughs) An alarm call! Apparently something dangerous has arrived. Sorry about that! Next, the same thing in the big birds’ room. They seemed a bit annoyed, but didn’t react much. Then the middle of the playground, where everyone just froze.

The result: the closer a chicken is to wild, the more it sounds the alarm, as if to say “this is dangerous!” But after a while, the reaction changes to “What are you doing?”

Around the coop

Othello White is a scaredy-cat and often misses out on food. This is a hen who came from next door a little while ago. Her feather pattern is beautiful. She isn’t used to her new surroundings yet, so she’s a bit restless.

The ducks we found back in Episode 133 have grown this big! Is the retainer taking a break, or hiding? Mint has a feather stuck on her nose again! The guinea fowl are calling as they go on patrol.

This one was injured, so she’s in a private room away from the others for now. She’s recovering nicely. And Chive has been playing in the mud. A white duck, but look at that face makeup! Or rather, way too dirty.

Thanks for watching Chicken Paradise. See you in the next episode!
