Good morning! Someone’s drinking from the water dish inside the cage. Good morning to you over there, too.
Back in the field
Chick time! Here they come — and one is coming out from here for the very first time. Kuro-chibi and Chako had lost their appetites, so they’d been recovering at home. Today is their first day back in the field in a while. Kuro-chibi is as tiny as ever.
The sweet peas I planted ages ago are finally blooming — red ones! The sun feels good, and the greenery is recovering, too.
In the little ones’ room
What’s going on here? Oh, it’s Purin, trying to lay an egg in this spot. Security guard Piccolo is on duty again today. Fujiko is molting (shedding and regrowing her feathers), so she has no tail and no leg feathers. She’s usually so feisty, but now she’s gone quiet, and Piccolo is gently watching over her.
These are standard quail, smaller than even our smaller chickens. These are jumbo quail. They look almost the same, but their eggs are this different in size. Our jumbo quail are still young, so they’ll get a little bigger.
Meanwhile, Purin laid her egg — and then big sister Bonbori took it! Purin was furious and protested, but she was brushed off. Poor Purin!
Scratch for a treat
Today’s treat is scratch, a grain mix I give them every so often. They came running at an amazing speed. The little ones get some too. This one can’t see, so I hand it over directly. Then some for the chicks. The chick on the left couldn’t get in — but getting jostled by the chickens makes you stronger (probably).
This white one is so white it almost glows. Someone’s neck is bent at a funny angle, and someone else is spilling it everywhere. And Sumi, as always, likes the corner — with those cute eyes.
Thank you for watching Chicken Paradise Hawaii! See you in the next video.
